Lloyd Sherman A film to see: Darwin's Nightmare, a documentary set on the shores of Lake Victoria. Plot Outline: The film depicts the effect of fishing the Nile perch in Tanzania's Lake Victoria. The predatory fish, which has wiped out the native species, is sold in European supermarkets, while starving Tanzanian families have to make do with the leftovers. Darwin's Nightmare was in theaters this summer and is available, now, I think, on DVD. There is a disturbing twist to the story which I will leave for potential viewers. Also very worth seeing is LORD OF WARS, maybe still playing around. Was out in the Fall. Has Africa focus. Dale Otto In case you and/or other TEAAers haven't come across it, this book is a must-read. The author is from Poland (as if you couldn't tell from his name), and his writing of over 30 years in and out of most of Sub-Saharan Africa is lyrical, insightful, truly interesting, and immensely thought-provoking: Ryszard Kapuscinski, The Shadow of the Sun.
