Sentencing in Eyeington Murders

Dear Ed, The only information I have on TEA people is a recent full page article in one of our major daily newspapers (The Guardian) on the continuing saga of the Eyeingtons. Headlined: "From African bush to Scotland Yard - the murder trail that led to al-Qaida. Dick and Enid had given almost forty years of their lives to Africa . Dick (3C) originally replaced me at Mzumbe School, Morogoro and they were, in October 2003, running a boarding school in a remote part of Somaliland. Dick and Enid were shot in their living room as they watched the evening news. Apparently the murders turned out to be part of the terror campaign by Islamic Fundamentalist militia fighters with links to al-Qaida. In November a court sentenced eight men to death for murdering Dick and Enid. Seven others got life sentences. All were found guilty of terrorism and banditry. A team of British police helped track down the killers. Louise, their barrister daughter, said on the verdict that though she feels a sense of closure with the verdict, she is upset about the death sentence. Dick and Enid were vehemently against the death penalty, and she is sad that her parents' lives and those of their killers should end like this. More information, obituaries and Memorial Service details can be found on the internet under "Dick Eyeington." Good wishes, Tony Beck |
