From Alan Olson, who served with the PC in Uganda and participated in TEAA's 2003 reunion in Kampala. I am planning a reunion trip for Friends of Uganda for June 2006, and Fawn Cousens is willing to be our contact on the ground when we need someone there to verify arrangements for us as we lead up to the trip. Please send out this announcement/invitation to your e-mail list of TEAAers. I can supply a tentative itinerary to anyone who is interested. Alan, olsoncna@adelphia.net, 717-642-9162 From Ed Schmidt. I have received a project proposal from a former student, Enoch Nandokha, requesting funds to expand an nursery school to a full elementary school. As Enoch is retired from the ministry, the school would have a strong Christian emphasis along with academics. Enoch is located near Bungoma in Western Kenya. For additional information, contact Ed Schmidt, eschmidt1@sbcglobal.net, 314-647-1608. From Lee Smith via Sonia Hylton Bivens. Dear TEA/TEEA Alumni: Nairobi, Kampala, Dar -- if just the mention of these words quickens your heart, please take a moment to read on. Many of you came to newly independent East Africa between1961-l971. You poured out your hearts and training into the experience and mission of TEA/TEEA -- and East Africa embraced you. Once again, EAST AFRICA NEEDS YOU. She is in crisis. Her people are dying of HIV/AIDS. I have recently joined the Board of Rising Sun Village Partners RSVP), a non-profit tax-exempt relief organization whose mission is to bring humanitarian aid and educational opportunity to the children of East Africa orphaned by AIDS. I'm calling on all TEAA-ers to help support RSVP's first program initiative -- the development of a Learning Center Complex in Uganda, to include a Library and Literacy Center and an Early Childhood Education Home-School House. For more information, please visit RSVP's Website: http://www.rsvpafrica.org ; e-mail: home@rspvafrica.org or contact RSVP's Executive Director, Sandra McCoy at 212-964-9322. Joy and Peace to you all. From Henry Hamburger. If you're feeling strong and can handle a probably true assessment of hunger, agriculture & population in Africa, you can go to http://news.bbc.co.uk/go/em/fr/-/1/hi/world/africa/4662232.stm . From Ed Schmidt. In 1999, when the effort began to locate former members of TEA and TEEA, a Yahoo search using "Teachers for East Africa" yielded five hits. Today the same search gets 63 hits on 7 pages. [Be sure to use those double quotes. This site appears first in Yahoo, though not in Google.] |
