Lloyd Sherman writes: Hey Ed, If it fits somewhere, I just published an article, A Method for Measuring Cultural Behaviors in Clinical Settings; Annals of Behavioral Science and Medical Education, Vol. 12, Number 1, Spring 2006. The novel concept and methodology makes use of technology and trained observers using a protocol we call Observing Cultural Behavior in Settings (OCBIS), to provide feedback to physicians/medical students on their use of cultural elicitation - those attempts to draw out the patient with regard to their cultural context, within which the illness resides. The methodology is quantitative and lends itself to research, training and basic cultural education. Keep up the good work. On August 13, Ed Schmidt gave a talk at the Ethical Society of St. Louis entitled, "East African Education, 1960 to the present." The presentation included slides from the 60s, the 2003 reunion, and a trip in November 2005 with Henry Hamburger. |
