Letter from TEAA Supported School

Okunya Milton

Dear TEAA team,

Am delighted to learn that we have got additional grant [for chemistry equipment]. We are sincerely very grateful, and we shall make every effort to put it to good use. I have delayed my response because I had wanted to get the cheque first and send a copy of the same but this has not been possible so far because Peter [TEAA representative Peter Indalo] has been quite busy of late and he tells me that he has not got one of his signatories. I intend to communicate as soon as I am in possession of the cheque.

The principal is due to retire next year and we are currently preparing for a changeover. A new principal will be appointed by TSC, a body that employs and deploys teachers in the country. In most cases a principal may be appointed from within the school if the outgoing one recommends and there is a person with relevant qualification from the staff. If this is not possible one may come from elsewhere.

I have talked to Carol, one of the teachers at the elementary school, and she is quite willing to take the project with Most Holy Trinity [a US elementary school]. I will send some of their letters as an attachment until she is able to acquire an email address. Kindly get Barbara informed that we have an enthusiastic chap coming up.

It was good to learn that soon we may be getting some assistance in the form of used computers. I have talked with Peter who has set up a room for us in his center where we sometimes take students for literacy skills in computer before we install electricity in school. The assistance will be quite a blessing for us.

We are currently in the process of setting up rain water storage facilities with about 3000 dollar aid from CDF in an effort to make our school comfortable, we shall be renovating some buildings soon as part of our regime change plan. The principal and the school management has asked me to draw up a strategic plan for the school for the next five years and very soon I will email extracts from it just to keep you abreast of our plans.

Our Music team is preparing national Music and Verse speaking competition next month while Form 4 students are currently taking trial exams. They are due for Chemistry practical tomorrow and with TEAA with us, they now are a bit more confident than the last year's lot.

Thank you so much and pass regards to the team. Yours, Okunya.
