September in Seattle! This year, that's where we all should be for TEAA's 4th Reunion in one of America's most beautiful cities. We'll be gathering at the lovely Roosevelt Hotel, conveniently located downtown in the free public transit area, and walking distance from the famous Pike Street Market, the Seattle waterfront, the dramatic new Rem Koolhus-designed Seattle Public Library, and the Seattle Art Museum with its great African art holdings. We have interesting speakers and panelists to bring you up to date on Africa and lots of opportunities for questions and discussion. We can mingle with old friends and meet new ones. We've negotiated a good room-rate so that we can all stay in the hotel, hang out together and enjoy each other's company. We'll also have a memorabilia room, so bring anything you'd like to share with others. On Saturday, we have the afternoon to go on group visits in the city or to explore on our own, and Saturday night there will be a party. Over sixty people have already stated their intention to attend, and we haven't even opened registration yet. We expect a turnout much like our first reunion, DC-01, where 128 attended. Mark your calendars now and call your TEAA friends. Urge them to come! Here are the details: WHEN: 4 p.m., Thursday, September 13 through noon, Sunday, September 16, 2007. WHERE: The Roosevelt, a Coast Hotel, 1531 Seventh Avenue, Seattle, WA 98101, (206) 621-1200. ROOM RESERVATIONS: 1-800-663-1144. Room rate: $145 a night, plus taxes. (For sharing and more info see the registration form; defrayments of up to $35/night/room are available on application. We very much want everyone to stay at the Roosevelt to make sure we meet our commitment to use 40 rooms.) CONFERENCE FEES: $125 for each TEAAer, $75 for each person accompanying a TEAAer. (Mail to Henry Hamburger, using the form at the end of this newsletter.) THE PROGRAM: Click on Seattle page for detailed info on the conference program. We are lining up program speakers and facilitators, places to visit, displays available, films, etc. now. So expect a work in progress. Suggestions or comments? Don't hesitate to contact us: Sharon Hartmann, 323-734-7095, sllybeck@ca.rr.com or Leal and Audrey Dickson, 360-679-9047, lealdickson@yahoo.com. NEW ON THE WEBSITE: Our website now features a section specifically devoted to Seattle-07! Reached by a single click on the home page of our general website (in the upper left corner), this resource already has substantial material and will be the place to watch for updates. Already there are photos and links to a panoply of relevant topics: the hotel where we'll stay and meet, Seattle sights, amenities and maps, regional activities and culture and even group photos of 21st century TEAA sojourners to East African schools. The program is already taking shape and the current draft is linked; updated versions will appear as they are ready. Suggestions are welcome.
