We've Heard from You

Roger Austin

Dear Ed, You put me to shame -- doggedly mailing newsletters without even knowing if they have been received because no reply has been forthcoming. My claim to fame, or should that be infamy, is a monumental inability to correspond by any known means. I did start a letter to you in June and lost it!

Then, happily for me and like a true gambler you decided to have one more throw of the dice with newsletter 15 and it did the trick. So instantly to business. Enclosed is $100; please use and distribute it as you see fit. There may be more later, but no promises now.

I have been hugely impressed by the ongoing developmental links that the U. S. side of the programme maintains and hugely enjoy the contributions that members have provided for the newsletter. In particular the article by Harold Scheub in NL12 perfectly addressed my own experiences and emotions of that amazing era.

I did three tours at Thika High School but strangely very few of my colleagues came through the TEA programme. We have a loose association among the staff which had its first large reunion and fundraising in '85 and another in 2003, though more significantly, past students of Thika organized a fantastic series of gathering/speeches/services/visits for the nine staff from the the 60s who went back for the occasion. More of that anon.

I thank you again for your perseverance. Kindest Regards, Roger Austin
