I am very glad to have this opportunity to respond to your msg dated 15th August. It may have been late but we had to sit down first as a committee and reach the conclusion. Before I go into much detail let me thank you personally for taking trouble to communicate with us directly in the Dicksons' absence. Then I thank you on behalf of TEAA for this new opportunity to assist our school. I understand that you are working day and night for the progress of our school. I need also to thank you for your appreciation that Nyakato has been your best school in terms of successful projects and communication. We thank you for this and I promise to keep this up. We are trying our best to utilize the opportunities from TEAA to our best of our school. 1. Starting with the last question the answer is definitely yes we wish to proceed. 2. Let me assure you that I'm committed to make sure that the things below will be done and some are already done. Through using all means within my ability in collaboration with the Ministry I promise to make the project a success. 3. Our main intention to embark on this project is to expose as many students to Computer Studies as possible. (Computer Studies is one of the subjects students in Tanzania sit for the exams.). At the beginning we hope to expose as many as they come to join Form I . After sitting for Form two exams we will remain with one stream of 40 students who will prepare themselves to sit for Form four exams. This number may increase as years pass depending on the available resources. 4. Because we have A-level classes we will introduce them to elementary knowledge that could enable them to search some materials from the computers. We hope to install some program for students to study. 5. This question of computers in place of what. In the Tanzania education system a student is required to take a minimum of seven subjects and a maximum of ten for Form four national exams. It is our intention that Computer Studies will be taken together with other subjects provided that a student meets the required number of subjects. It will be our task now to create consciousness to our students in this world of science and technology so that they may not lag behind. 6. During your visit to Nyakato you saw our computer room in the middle of two other rooms. These other two rooms are the classes with ability to accommodate 40 students each at once. They were made purposely as computer classes. The rooms have adequate security as you saw them. 7. Costs for electricity in all Government schools are paid direct by the Ministry Of Education and Vocational Training to the Tanzania Electric Supply Company. (TANESCO). The electricity system works in all the two rooms, plus the present computer room is already rehabilitated to meet the demands. 8. The headmaster promised to see to it that the computers are serviced and running regularly. 9. Concerning the teacher training up to this moment the school has a total of five teachers and one secretary with basic knowledge in computer to start with. The committee also agreed that the Headmaster in collaboration with the Ministry would make all possible efforts to improve their knowledge. These include: William Mashimba, Gosbert Rugemela, Henry Bitegeko, Leonard Laurent, Robert Bibangamba, and Joanmary Kimaze (the school secretary). 10. We also plan to set a system that students will be the main users of the computers, however there will be a monitoring system that a special person would be responsible for the computer uses (as it is now done with the Library, I think you still remember to have seen the books you send to Nyakato that are used in the school library). Up to this moment there is a strong cooperation with our students there are no cases of students destroying properties. 11. If we did not tell you this before, let me tell you today that our students are quite aware of all the assistance we get from TEAA and they value it very much. They are highly responsible for the safety of the books and other school properties; they are ready to report any irregularity before it becomes harmful. We always tell them the better you use these the more you will get we also tell them as it is useful for you today it should be useful too for your brothers tomorrow. Wish you all the best hoping that by the time you read this you will be back. Hope to hear from you soon. Yours, LABAN D. KANSIMBA, HEADMASTER |
