More Letters from TEAA Supported Schools

Okunya Milton, Principal, St. Joseph's School, Gunga, Kenya

Dear Ed,

It was song and dance at St Joseph's the other day when I had the pleasure of giving them this very good news [of a grant from TEAA for science equipment], actually according to our own "news reporters," this was an Xmas gift given in November. As a matter of fact, Ed, the only science equipment I found here is a single voltmeter and every term we organise for a laboratory orientation in a neighbouring school. Let me assure you that the funds will be used in the best way possible for to me this has been a real favour and show of trust. To paraphrase your dream, we shall play according to the rules and ask our students to work harder. I am sure they would not fail me for unlike before, now the buck for all decisions taken here stops with me. I will keep you posted about every development as soon as Peter clears us [the funds].

We currently have a lot of rains but thank God we are almost starting our long holidays until January 7. I do hope that your trip is still on and that you will consider including us in your itinerary. I can promise a lot of fish since we have a lot here. As you celebrate Thanksgiving Day, I would wish a very merry time. I was reading the other day about ''His Accidency'' and got so amused. I also realized that a number of your presidents have been associated in one way or another with war. Do you consider this heroism? And are we just about to see the first woman "His Excellency" in the White House?

Pass my regards to the rest, and thank you so much. Sincerely, Okunya

Jiganza Massaba, teacher at Bwiru Boys School

Mr. Frank,

Thank TEAA and you very much for your effort of making Bwiru Boys' to be on line up to October. Thank you very much sir. With regards, Jiganza Massaba, for the headmaster

Enoch Nandokha, TEAA rep in Bungoma, Kenya

Dear Henry,

Greetings. I have just received yours now. Briefly I don't know much about Justus Masika. I have been to Wamalwa Kijana High School twice. There will be enrollment of first KCSE [Form 4 exam] pioneer class 2007. [The school is just 4 years old.] Hence they are struggling to establish science laboratories in preparation. The expectation for them to equip Physics Laboratory might need Ksh. 100,000/= for apparatus and equipment but for Chemistry and Biology Laboratories might need Ksh 250,000/=. They have no rooms yet for laboratories. Details of this will be forwarded to you by the school headmaster.

For Butonge High School, they are grateful for the 20 computers they received,16 are in good working conditions but 4 have a problem. However if there will be anything to be sent to school in future, to be safer, send direct to the school instead of through the agent. [Not possible, in this case. -ed] As I visited them they also want to establish the science laboratories, they have rooms made for that, they too will be able to send you the details of the requirements hopefully on time. Generally the school (Butonge) is doing very well, they hope for better results in National examinations than last year.

Thanks for now. Greetings from my wife, hope to see you when you visit us next. Sincerely yours, Enoch
