The Kitengesa Community Library Project is the brainchild of Emmanuel Mawanda, head of a nearby secondary school, and Kate Parry (kateparry@earthlink.net). Kate, a former Teacher for East Africa, is a professor in New York with a home near Kitengesa. She is active in the research and promotion of literacy. KCL's February 2005 News has information on their solar panel grant from the UN.

Through scholarships and basic literacy classes, the African Canadian Continuing Education Society has helped over 1,000 young Kenyans with the skills and education needed to benefit themselves and their society.

World Computer Exchange, transfers computers to Africa in lots of 200 or more. They have hundreds of volunteers in many cities.

The WiderNet Project has developed the eGranary, "the 'Internet-in-a-Box' solution delivering more than three million digital documents to scholars in developing countries."

The Commission for Africa was created by Tony Blair prior to the G8 summit in 2005. Tanzanian president Benjamin Mkapa served on the commission of 17. They instigated Learning Africa, the next entry.

Learning Africa, is "a resource to help teachers explore the issues raised by the Commission's findings in the classroom."
